Fabio Borini: Mobbed after firing Italy into the European U21 Championship final
Italy striker Fabio Borini was delighted to
put an unhappy season behind him by firing his country into the final of
the European Under-21 Championship.
The Liverpool striker, who scored just twice for his new club last term in an injury-hit campaign after arriving from Roma, scored the only goal of the game to defeat Holland in their semi-final.
The Azzurrini will now take on Spain in the final of the Under-21 tournament in Israel on Tuesday after Borini's smart turn and finish in the 79th minute in Petak Tikva on Saturday night.
Borini told Sky Sports 2HD: "It means everything - the past, the present, the future.
"All the group is absolutely amazing because it was very hard to play against Holland in the first half. We came out really well in the second half to be compact and scored the goal.
"I was waiting for this tournament since the beginning of the season. I have been preparing for this since I had my shoulder injury.
"To score the semi-final goal that takes us through to the final is very important for me."
Borini knows Tuesday's final against defending champions Spain will be another significant test, but feels the tag of underdogs could work in Italy's favour.
He added: "It won't be easier than this. It will be a very difficult game. They are playing to defend their title and we have nothing to lose." Posted by WWW.Thesuperonenews.blogspot.com
